we might think there's a version of paradise
where the to call to respond is silenced
golden shores and silver waves
deep restful calm negotiates
humbly washing our hands
faultless of the rage that is to ascend
yet deep in the pain there is no escape
face reflects face though eyes avert
ship crashing into splintering storm
cold sea salt swelling starboard into our dreams
will we blame God or be thrown into the sea?
